Pine Street African-American Cemetery

Located on Pine Street, just east of St. James Street, is the African-American cemetery that was in use from 1750s to the 1870s.

As the city encroached on what had been "Common Grounds," the cemetery was eventually left unmarked and consumed by dwellings. In recent years, the project to reclaim this historical site has taken shape.

In case you missed our presentation on the topic by Joseph Diamond of SUNY New Paltz, he has shared this wonderfully detailed article about the site for our patrons.
